TLDR:

  • The Pennsylvania Department of Education has awarded a $78,601 grant to the Schuylkill Technology Center to purchase new equipment for career and technical education programs.
  • The funding will allow students to develop critical skills through hands-on learning experiences and graduate with industry credentials or certifications.

The Schuylkill Technology Center (STC) in the 123rd Legislative District has been awarded a $78,601 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to purchase new equipment for career and technical education programs. The grant funding aims to support STC in training students for high-demand occupations.

STC is an accredited career and technical school made up of 12 public school districts in Schuylkill County. The school serves students in grades 9-12 and offers 21 programs of study that combine classroom theory, hands-on application, and access to state-of-the-art equipment.

The grant funding will enable STC to provide students with the opportunity to develop critical skills through a combination of classes and hands-on learning experiences. This approach allows students to apply academics to real-world problems and graduate on a path for success.

Rep. Tim Twardzik, who represents the district, praised STC’s Assistant Executive Director Shannon Brennan for the center’s success in preparing students for the workforce. Twardzik noted that local businesses have found graduates from STC to be job-ready and thriving in their careers.

Career and technical education programs are designed to prepare students for successful entry into the workforce or higher education at the postsecondary level. By providing students with industry credentials or certifications, STC helps them gain a competitive edge in the job market.

The grant funding from the PDE will support STC’s mission to provide high-quality technical education to students in Schuylkill County. The new equipment purchased with the grant will enhance the learning experience and ensure that students have access to the latest technology in their chosen fields.
