Sean Mooney, a professor at the University of Washington, has been appointed as the director of the National Institutes of Health’s Center for Information Technology (CIT). Mooney will be responsible for managing CIT’s $400 million IT portfolio, which includes cloud-based services, collaboration tools, research networks, and a supercomputer for data analysis. His expertise in bioinformatics and experience in developing collaborative computing systems make him well-suited for the role. Mooney will officially assume the role in March, replacing Ivor D’Souza, who has been serving as the acting director since 2022.
